Morning Mass In Newark, Delaware

The first rains of the approaching storm Sandy that would soon devastate New York and New Jersey and provide a photo op for Obama.

Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.

This church wasn't originally Catholic.

The eight o'clock mass had a more senior attendance. I loved the lectors, elderly men, who read passages from the Holy Bible.

The priest, an elderly man, gave a stirring homily.

Everything is tastily done, not ostentatious or gaudy, and most things date back to centuries ago.

That man was a lector and he had a beautiful resonant deep voice; I thought he must be a retired professor.

An interesting antique radiator.

The stations of the cross are depicted in paintings.

The balcony at the back of the church held the piano.
