Elfreth's Alley - the Oldest Continuously Occupied Street In America

Elfreth's Alley is America's oldest residential street, three hundred and ten years. It is located in Philadelphia just east of the Betsy Ross House and the first U.S. Mint.

Visiting here was like going back in time and walking through an old English town. The British flag adds to the ambiance.

The colonial guide told us that those are mirrors on the upper floors so the occupants could see who was knocking on their doors.

There were only three of us on this walking tour.

Some of these places are for sale.

That wide door was once a horse stable.

Jill gets an explanation from the guide.

Houses were built in Philadelphia to prevent fires from spreading. That was part of William Penn's city plan. There is still cobble stones from the city's beginning.

I love the old cellar doors.

You can see we visited during Halloween.
