History Comes Alive When You Travel To Mount Vernon

Washington wanted his house to look like a brick mansion, so he had the londgboards of the exterior carved to look like stone.

Washington's storehouse, he gave detailed instructions on how it should be managed.

Another view of the storehouse.

Looks old because it is old.

The family carriage.

Washington's horse "Nelson" once lived here.

The stables.

Follow the leader. Jill and Tommy were nice to take me on this vacation as a birthday celebration.

The first tomb where Washington was buried.

Washington's second tomb as spelled out in his will.

George is buried on the right, and Martha's is on the left. This was a good marriage. During the Revolutionary War Martha stayed with George at every encampment.
