MAI Classroom - Parent Info

Helping your child be successful is a very important part of the school experience. The more a parent understands the classroom procedures, routines, and expectations, the higher the child's achievement. While completing homework is essential, overall success depends on the learning that takes place in the classroom.

Grades are important; students should know this and know that grades indicate how much they are learning, and that grades directly correlate with their individual effort and good work habits. Learning to be an independent student and learning how to learn are what we are trying to accomplish. It is much more than content or learning at the knowledge level. Their skills are a work in progress; organization skills, time management skills, study skills, test taking skills, reading skills, writing skills, and learning to stay focused, on task, and productive. Learning ought to be fun and the student's, not the parent's, responsibility. A parent should not have to spend hours a week to help their child. We will talk about this at orientation. Try to remove any anxiety you might have.

Getting on the Honor Roll ought to be a minimum goal. That is a 3.50 G.P.A. or, three As and three Bs. The three subjects that are the easiest to get As in are spelling, reading, and language. The three more difficult subjects to get As in are math, science, and social studies. We do have some students who get all As, and many who have grade averages higher than 3.50.
