Monday Still A Fun Day

  • PTO meeting tomorrow at 6:00 P.M. to discuss parent concerns and how the district will handle budget shortfalls and staffing next year. Partick Nelson, Amphi's Associate Superintendent, will be a guest speaker.
  • Arizona's East Valley Tribune (9/12, Reese) reported that Arizona "is using its entire two-year allotment of education stimulus dollars this fiscal year - $472 million, with the first payment going to schools Oct. 1." About $300 million will be used "to make the next state aid payment due to school districts and charter schools." School districts "were to receive a payment on Sept. 15, but because of the use of federal dollars, more time is needed." The East Valley Tribune adds that "after the $300 million payment goes out Oct. 1, another $172 million will be used in future months." School officials say that because it is "using all of its education stimulus dollars," the state may face a "'cliff' next fiscal year." Chuck Essigs, director of government relations for the Arizona Association of School Business Officials, points out, however, "The state didn't have a choice. If they didn't do what they're doing now, there would be bigger cuts to K-12 education, and if they cut too much further, they would not have qualified for federal money."
