More Hiking in the Sierras of California - Father and Son

  • Even in this modern world, we try to teach our children what is important and how to live in the world. Mothers teach daughters about cooking, sewing, fixing their hair, makeup, and other things a girl needs to know. A father teaches his son about hunting, or fishing, or camping, or fixing the car. A daughter learns to love opera from her father's love of opera. A son learns to fish and catch and release just the way his father modeled it for him. A son learns how to treat and respect women from both his mother and father.

On our trip a 10 year old boy got to learn about camping from his father, his grandfather, his great uncle, and his teacher. And he amazed us. He never complained once. He never asked to go home or lamented that he was bored. The not so great food - that was okay with him. The incessant mosquitoes - that was just the way it was, so what. Going off in the woods by himself to the bathroom - no big deal. Nothing to do - he found things to do. When asked to do his share - no issues. His only discomfort was telling his father he accidentlly broke his sun glasses.

Will he take his son hiking and camping? I bet Lorenzo will and he will probably take a dog along.
  • Would I like to go hiking with them in California again? You bet I would.
