Pima Air and Space Museum - A Nice Place To Visit

  • I grew up playing with army men and the movies I watched as a young boy were filled with the kind of aircraft on display at the Pima Air and Space Museum. My favorite is the F 86 Sabre Jet that fought in the Korean War and was a much superior aircraft than the Russian Migs they went up against. At the museum there is a lot to see and do. Lorenzo and I toured the grounds and buildings visiting vintage aircraft from WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. We talked to the veterans who worked in the museum to give us more information about the planes, the men who flew them, and the battles. They explained to us that the P 51 Mustang they had on display was built by the museum from spare parts. The Mustang was one of the fastest and deadliest aircrafts of WWII. Did you notice the oxymoron Bad Angel painted on its fuselage?
  • They told us that the US Air Force told them they would have to give back the high altitude Blackbird they had on loan if they kept it outside so they built a building and moved it inside; that is a very vaulable spy plane.
  • Lorenzo and I walked, we talked, we looked, we read, we learned, and we admired the famous aircraft. On our way out we stopped at the gift shop and Lorenzo bought himself a package of 202 army men. Boys like us never change.
