Will Core Standards Save the Public Schools?

That depends on what "save" means.

Will there always be public schools? Yes.

Will they meet the needs of all the students? No. They won't meet the needs of the high students because they have a curriculum that is a compromise. The bar is set too low. It will be up to the junior colleges to teach the students what they should have learned in high school; it will be up to the high schools to teach the students what they should have learned in middle school; it will be up to the middle schools to teach the students what they should have learned in fourth and fifth grades.

Alternative schools will flurish. The poor will be cheated of the promise given to them of a quality education. That quality education goes to the rich; to the haves, not to the have nots. The poor get a watered down curriculum, low expectations, and the least amount of money spent per student in the mainstreamed classrooms all over America.
