Bear Two-A-Days - Da Bears - Mike Ditka - Buddy Ryan - Walter Payton - Dan Hampton - the 1985 Super Bowl Trophy

Tommy runs like a running back through a tackling machine on the practice field in Lake Forest.

Dennis Gentry was a versatile running back. He was quick and could change directions. He could split out wide. He was good at draws, shuttle passes, and screens. A lot of teams tried to trade for Dennis.

Dan Hampton was always nice to us fans. From the first year he was drafted, until he was an all-pro Super Bowl winner he would graciously sign autographs and take pictures with fans. Dan was drafted out of Arkansas.

Wilbur Marshall. I can still see him running with the ball in the Ram playoff game with the snow coming down. The Bears should have paid him what he was worth and not let him sign with the Washington Redskins.

A nice embrace by Buddy Ryan. When the Bears were looking for a new head coach, the defensive players asked George Halas to keep Buddy as their Defensive Coordinator. Buddy became the head coach of Philadelphia after the Bears won the Super Bowl in 1985. Buddy's son is Rex, the current coach of the New York Jets.

Walter Payton during practice catching a pass. Walter made many great catches for touchdowns during the seasons.

Mike Ditka once said that George Halas tossed nickels around like manhole covers. When Mike was a special teams coach for Dallas, he wrote a letter to George Halas requesting that he be considered for the head coaching job with the Bears. He got the job and was the head coach when the Bears won Super Bowl XX. His career as a tight end with the Bears got him elected into the Hall of Fame. When Michael McCaskey fired Mike, I stopped being a Bear fan. I'm still not. I would rather follow the Green Bay Packers.

I was able to touch and take pictures of the Bear Super Bowl trophy. I was a happy fan back then. Thinking about it, it was quite amazing that they left me by myself in the room with this trophy.

  1. The Marshall TD run in the Championship Game was vs the Rams (not Giants).

    Great Pictures, Thanks!
