Do You See What I See?

"Mr. Game Warden, I don't need a license to drive a boat," said Owen. "I just need to reach the steering wheel. Can you please show me where the brakes are?"

Said the night wind to the little lamb
Do you see what I see
Way up in the sky little lamb
Do you see what I see
A star, a star
Dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite

Said the little lamb to the shepard boy
Do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky shepard boy
Do you hear what I hear
A song, a song
High above the tree
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepard boy to the mighty king
Do you know what I know
In your palace wall mighty king
Do you know what I know
A child, a child
Shivers in the cold
Let us bring him silver and gold
Let us bring him silver and gold

Said the king to the people everywhere
Listen to what I say
Pray for peace people everywhere
Listen to what I say
The child, the child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light

The child, the child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light

What I see is the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. The best selling car in America. Oldsmobile is no longer in business. Management matters. Kind of like who is president matters. I loved this car, but it was not designed to pull a boat this heavy. Going down the highway heading for Michigan, the engine light was on. The car was overheating. I lifted up the hood and the water in the overflow tank from the radiator was boiling. We had to keep the air conditioner off and the heater on all the way to Michigan and back. We rolled the windows down and pretended it was like the old days going to Mississippi in cars that didn't even have air conditioners.

Serene. Peaceful. Placid. Quiet. Beautiful.

Elmhurst College sweat jacket. Where is it now. How do things disappear. We were learning how to hold fish without a pot holder.

You have to like fishing to spend any time in this boat. The seats are hard. There are no back rests. It's hard to stay standing up to cast. That five gallon can is how we added gas and oil to the motor. No electric starter. The boat could not go very fast with a five horse motor. But it was a lot better than staying home. Oh yeah!

One of Tommy's first big walleyes. We catch and release nowadays.

My first boat. It was a little too slow for water skiing.

We learned to use lures off this pier.
