Gettysburg Battlefield Tour

We had a choice of a bus tour, a car tour, or a horseback tour. We chose the car tour where the guide drove our car.

A very pristine national park.

A beautiful time of year.

Jill went in to get our tickets.

Gettysburg is famous for Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

Owen and I pose for a kind stranger who took this picture.

The town of Gettysburg. Why a battle at Gettysburg? We asked. Lee was looking for a place to fight the Army of the Potomac. The battle happened here because several major roads came together in this town.

More men fell on the Battle of Gettysburg than in any other battle on American soil before or since. We are here on Seminary Ridge looking at the peaceful rolling hills that pay silent tribute to the last full measure of devotion that occurred on the first three days of July, 1863.

Cannons played an important part of the three days of fighting.

Can you imagine ten thousand men stretched a mile across this field marching to meet the enemy? The Confederates were overconfident during the battles at Gettysburg.

Our guide explains the first shots of the battle and the opening skirmishes. Lee did not want the battle to start so soon.
