Big Wheel Keep On Rolling

This is Jill on her Big Wheel just about the time her mother asked for a divorce. Bummer.

The Big Wheel was made by Marx. I had a lot of my Christmas toys that were made by Marx in the 50s: trains, bridges, tanks, cars and trucks. Fun stuff.

Moni never had a Big Wheel and she always wanted one. She said she loved the compartment. She loves the break that you could apply and do spin outs.

I made my own scooter that had a compartment. I loved keeping stuff in it. I took one of my sister's roller skates and I nailed two wheels of the skate on the front of a two by four, and two wheels on the back of the board. Then I nailed a wooden apple box on the front of  the two by four. We decorated the apple box with bottle caps. A small board across the bottom of the box made a nice compartment. Fun being a kid. Poor kids like me often made our own toys.

I used cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, and pieces of wood and made rocket ships, submarines, forts, castles with draw bridges, and whaling boats and harpoons to harpoon wooden whales. I had an erector set and I never followed the directions. I had my own designs. I noticed in the school where I taught that the gifted kids didn't like to follow someone else's plans. Not that I am suggesting that I'm gifted. My sister insists that I am just AVERAGE.
