My Sister the Nun - Sister Shannon of Budapest - This week Is About Family

A dad and his daughter working as a team on the evening meal. We are thankful for the two locations that most loyally follow our blog from Austin, Texas and United States, Kansas/Oklahoma. Welcome and many thanks.

Sister Ida Peterfy founded the Society Devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In those early days Sister Ida and her earliest companions lived the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience to God. They did not wear the traditional veil and garb in order to be more approachable to those who were alienated from the Catholic Church by Nazism and communism.

Sister Shannon learned to speak Hungarian fluently and without an accent; she earned her college degree in Budapest, and she has been a teacher in the schools and religious education classes for children and adults. Some sisters of this order serve in the medical field.

Watch what you are saying, Pops has a knife. Don't mention Ronald Reagan in favorable terms. Ha, ha.

Is that you, Jet? Jet is our resident and favorite hummingbird.

Lorenzo jokes that if Mommy sees a leaf blowing or a butterfly flying by us, she sees God. How do we know it's not?

Most of Monica's family visited Budapest last year where her parents Pat and Karen renewed their marriage vows. That was a very special ceremony.

It's good to be able to laugh.

Sister Shannon had an early call to join the sisterhood and devote her life to Christ and service to the community. Each year the nuns are given their assignments which could be in California, Missouri, Taipei, or Hungary. Sister Shannon is going back to Hungary after a month in the states. Maybe our blog will get a hit from Pest, Hungry.

Sister Shannon felt very welcome and comfortable in Monica's house; she sat on the floor and played games with her nephew Lorenzo, and her neice Clare. When you meet her, she immediately puts you at ease.

Sister Shannon said grace and we enjoyed our meal of tri-tip, twice baked potatoes, and lovely conversation.

Sister Shannon, like many other nuns, attends mass every day. It was an honor to have her come to Saint Odilia and bring up the gifts.

Sisters who both have a strong faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Sister love is a special love.

The Knights of Columbus are holding an emergency food drive in search of cans of peaches which are in very short supply.
