A view of Tinseltown with the 405 Freeway in the foreground. |
Any time of day there are always a lot of people on the freeway going somewhere. |
California has the highest pollution standards in the country and they have good reason to have them. |
I should find out what building this is. Maybe Pat or Tim knows. Most of you might recognize this road; it's the place of the famous police escort of the white Bronco to the OJ home in Brentwood. |
Smog envelopes the city and drifts east towards San Bernadino. |
This five lane highway can handle a lot of traffic. So many Californians have a long way to drive to get to work. Public transportation does not meet this need. |
The Getty and the 405 looking north. |
We didn't spend any time looking at antique furnishings and decorative household implements. |
Each painting is well displayed with ample lighting. Camera flashes are not allowed. I'm glad mine didn't go off accidentally. |
Irises by Vincent "ear less" van Gogh. |
Wheatstacks by Monet. He painted a lot of pictures of the subject during various lighting conditions, honestly, they don't do much for me. |
An early piece by Monet. This is a beautiful painting, but what's with the one legged guy? |
A good example of French Impressionism. |
We borrowed these ipods from the museum that allowed you to punch in a number and have the work of art explained. |
Pat is very good at reading and listening to the material provided. |
It is rewarding to learn about art, music, and literature. |
I wonder why they don't tell us how much they paid for it and where they purchased it. The Getty was the first museum to return art that was seized by the Nazis. |
It is important that seniors keep up with technology. |
Pat wanted to see a Vincent van Gogh work. This painting he did in 1889 called Irises. |
Pat is listening to Wheatstacks explained. |
So, why did he paint so many of these wheat and hay stacks? |
This is a lot of walking. In a day we were only able to see less than a fourth of the exhibits. |
Look at Billy's belly sticking out. He looks like a little boy all dishevelled. |
What you are looking at is.... |
Young Man Red by Raphael. |
Abduction of Europe by Rembrandt. |
Old Man in Military Costume by Rembrandt. |
Promenade by Renoir. Renoir is my favorite painter, and French Impressionism is my favorite period. |
