Pictures From the Smithsonian - A Visit With the Grandkids

The streets of Washington were busy, but they didn't have their usual bustle because it was Columbus Day and government offices and schools were closed. Everything seemed a little smaller and less impressive than the photographs and images on TV of our national capital and the city that shoulders the responsibility of being the leader of the free world. Still, the architecture is beautiful and history is around every corner.

My main interest that day was to see the WWII aircraft in the Smithsonian. They have the only Dauntless Dive Bomber to survive the war. A great aircraft that made our victory at Midway possible. It a matter of less than ten minutes, this plane sank four Japanese aircraft carriers and changed the course of the war in the pacific. I love history and we all should be proud of our heritage. It is good to be an American.

In language arts we did: a double edit, a journal write, graded the grammar, collected the spelling, took a spelling test, went over the planners, learned about metaphors and completed a practice sheet, read play parts, and listened during Read Aloud.
